Philips' Lighting division needed a Field Service Report developed in Excel, including a feature for their Field Engineers to capture clients' signatures within the Field Report. They had previously used Topaz hardware and software for this but needed hundreds of these for a new intake of Field Engineers, so they requested some creative thinking to come up with a less expensive way to achieve this.

In discussion with Philips Lighting staff we designed and created an interactive Field Report form in Excel with drop-down selections, automatic generation of new sheets where required and macros to save the report in PDF format for the client and an option to automatically send the Field Report to the Field Engineer’s email system.
The method of capturing the customer’s signatures using the laptop’s touchpad or a tablet’s screen was initiated by Philips Lighting and we came up with some programming code which integrated Microsoft Paint as the method for the signature to be input.
